Originally the word elixir or elixir was used to distinguish the compounds prepared by apothecaries and alchemists for purely healing purposes. With the advent of chemical pharmacy, elixirs lost their original role, moving from the shelves of pharmacies to those of liquor stores. Suitably reinterpreted and sweetened, they quickly spread as a delight for the palate.
Delicately bitter liqueur which, like jarred sweets from old drugstores, is the result of the combination of the bittering component of rhubarb and the pure freshness of mint.
